The General Assembly endorses the heritage mission of the organization:

Delegates from national associations meeting in Cairo (Egypt) in May 2008 have elected Ms Edith Arnoult-Brill, from France,as President of the International Youth Hostel Federation(Hostelling International).

A motion was also passed on the promotion of world heritage cities, making this activity a priority for the organization. An award with a cash prize was given by Hostelling International, to young participants at the 32nd session of the UNESCO World Heritage held in July 2008 in Quebec City (Canada).
