2010 - Brazil
The award ceremony took place on the night of July 24, at the National Museum of the Republic, with the presence of the leading authorities of culture and heritage of Brazil, plus special guests attending the 34th World Conference of UNESCO - World Heritage Committee.
At the opening of the Conference on July 25, it was presented a video of all the work accomplished by the Forum, always with the exposure of the Hostelling International logo as a separate partner and two young people read a document called LETTER OF BRASILIA, with the outcome of Discussions, proposals and commitments.
The event was very successful, especially in news articles - print and electronic - in major newspapers and TVs in Brazil. Many of us, especially the youth, gave interviews to foreign media.
The Forum ended on the eve of the World Conference of UNESCO, when we handed over Certificates and Commemorative Medals to the 45 young participants from all regions of Brazil and Latin America.
UNESCO representative, Ms Carmela Quin, was with us all throughout the forum, staying in our hostels, just like other guests, including Mrs Irazu Lopez, Spain, organizer of the event last year.
At the event where the winners were revealed, there was the presentation of the HI - 2009 Christina Cameron winning project (Los Aurelles, Paraguayan), and we were all very happy with the accountability of the project as the winner and the how much of the money earned was applied correctly, helping in the preservation and dissemination of a World Heritage.
Here are the 2010 HI - Christina Cameron winners:
1st Place Project - BARN OF NATURAL AND CULTURAL PROPERTY - Discovering the assets of our city. Author - FRANCISCO LEANDRO DE OLIVEIRA, 18 years old, Cachoeira, Maranguape, Ceara, Brazil.
2nd Place Project - VALORIZACIÓN DEL PATRIMONIO CULTURAL Y MATERIAL, DESDE UMA OPTICAL JOVEN.
Author - BRIAN GINES BEJARANO, 18 years old, from Asuncion, Paraguay.
3rd Places Project – FORMACIÓN DE JOVENES SOBRE EL EL PATRIMONIO TUCUMANO. Author - TATIANA Cavallino, 20 years old, of San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina.
Project – JOAOPESSOA.BR – INFORMATIZING THE STORY OF OUR HERITAGE.

2009 – Spain
Winning schools presented with the HI-Christina Cameron Youth Award in Seville
The HI - Christina Cameron Youth Award was launched last year at the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Québec, Canada. The award is sponsored by Hostelling International and is named after Canadian Dr Christina Cameron, a world renowned expert in the field of World Heritage and Chairperson of the World Heritage Committee.
This year, in June 2009, the 33rd Session of the World Heritage Committee was held in Seville, Spain. The First World Heritage Latin American Youth Forum took place within the framework of the meeting. The forum consisted of 39 young people aged 12 to 15. It was the first time that a forum of this nature had taken place working specifically with children. Those present were young people from secondary schools, chosen for their skills in various heritage-related issues.
The Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with Hostelling International, coordinated a competition, in relation with the HI-Christina Cameron Youth Award, amongst the schools of the 39 participants. The school centers were invited to submit proposals, suggesting World Heritage projects that would be carried out in their schools. These projects were reviewed by a qualified panel, who chose the best three entries and each of the winning schools was giving a prize for their research and was presented with their certificates by HI President Edith Arnoult-Brill.
The winners:
1st Prize won by the Educative Center of Los Laureles from Trinidad, with the project " The Jesuit ruins are ours"
2nd Prize won by the High Pedagogic Institute Santo Rosa from Peru, with the project "Protection of the World Heritage place of Cusco"
3rd Prize won by the Public College of Gloria Fuertes from Spain, with the project "The Mudejar of Terruel, a nearby heritage"
2008 - Canada
Each of 30 young people aged 18-25 years was asked to imagine a project that would develop in his or her community as a result of his or her experience in Canada, to render it profitable for the greatest number.
In reviewing the various projects, the youths determined which ones showed the greatest potential for reinvestment in the community. They are the authors of three selected projects that were each awarded one of three scholarships totaling $ 5,000.
The recipients were Ansoumane Sane, of Senegal; Taryn Barry, of Canada and Hari Wibowo, of Indonesia
